Meet the Heart behind Deep Roots Biblical Counselling
Why did I become a Biblical Counsellor?
After surrendering my life to Christ in November of 2018, I had continued to pursue a career in healthcare, believing that was how I was meant to help others. Through clear redirection, God led me away from that path and began opening doors towards biblical counselling. With guidance from spiritually mature mentors and leaders (alongside a LOT of prayer!), out of obedience, I pursued formal training to become a certified biblical counsellor, and founded Deep Roots Biblical Counselling. God, in his faithfulness and grace, continued to lead me in this direction, so, I followed, in obedience, and I am grateful every day that I did.
Do I have any specific areas of expertise or personal interests within counselling?
My heart is especially tender toward those who are walking through deep suffering. Having personally experienced pain and brokenness, I’m especially passionate about coming alongside individuals who have experienced abuse—whether emotional, physical, or sexual—as children or adults. I also have a deep compassion for those living in abusive relationships, facing chronic health issues, life-altering diagnoses, surgeries, or struggling with anxiety, despair, identity and purpose.
What do I love most about biblical counselling?
Living in a fallen world brings real suffering, but I’ve seen the hope and healing that come through God’s truth. God has gifted me a front row seat to his redemptive work in the lives of others, and it is my favourite place to sit in - awe and reverence.
How do I integrate my faith into my personal life?
For me, integrating faith into my personal life means living in continual response to what God has done in my life; what he is doing, and what he has promised as we live in the tension of the “already,” but “not yet.” I believe that true worship isn’t reserved for Sunday mornings, but is whole-bodied, all-encompassing, and lived out daily in thoughts, words, and actions, and in all relationships. As Paul urges in Romans 12:1–2, the only fitting response to the grace we’ve been given is to offer our entire lives to God as a living sacrifice. That means striving to continually submit to him - moment by moment - allowing the Holy Spirit to renew my mind and transform the way I live. God’s mercy isn’t just something he showed me in the past—it’s active and ongoing, working in and through me by his Spirit. Since we can be influenced by culture without even knowing it, I strive to be purposeful; staying grounded in God’s will instead of drifting toward the world’s patterns, or worldly defaults.
What life experiences have shaped how I counsel?
My approach to counselling is deeply shaped by a lifetime of personal experiences with trauma, chronic illness, and the redemptive grace of God. Struggles such as walking through childhood abuse, the pain of broken family dynamics due to addiction, and life-altering health challenges have given me a profound empathy for those in pain, whether from trauma, medical crises, or relational difficulties. Through it all, I’ve experienced God’s transforming grace and his faithfulness in the midst of suffering. This is the root of my passion to help others find hope and healing in Christ.
Hi! My name is Alysia, and I’m so grateful you’re here. If you are looking for healing and hope, know that you are not alone — I am here to walk with you on this journey.
My heart is deeply burdened for those who are hurting. After years of searching for healing through secular means, God patiently and lovingly pursued me - guiding me from unbelief, toward the truth of His Word. Having faced immense personal trials, including childhood abuse, chronic illness, and life-altering medical challenges, I have witnessed firsthand the power of God’s redemptive love and found true restoration, in Christ alone. I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed by pain, uncertainty, and grief, but I also know the hope and strength that come from God’s truth.
This life transformation - by grace, through faith alone - led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Theological Studies from Heritage College and Seminary, along with extensive biblical counselling training and certification so that I could become a conduit of God’s redemptive work to others - to share the hope, healing, restoration and purpose that is only found in him.
Living in a fallen world inevitably brings suffering and pain. My passion is to meet people where they are and help them view their struggles through a biblical lens. I aim to gently point each child of God to the one who sees them, loves them, and holds them in their pain. No one is beyond God’s grace, and it is my privilege to help others find comfort, healing, and purpose through His Word, just like I have experienced myself.
